The Water

We carry in the water to remind us that we become children of God in water. We pour water to get a sense that the water is alive. We can see it move in the font and can hear it splash. In water, God gave us new life, so we pour the water at the confession as a sign of our life beginning anew.

When you hold the water, use both of your hands. Put one hand on the bottom of the pitcher and the other hand in the handle. You should hold it away from your body a little.
When you carry the water, you will be after the cross, the choir and the bible. When you get to the font, pause and bow. Then walk to the left of the font and a few steps past it and turn around. David and the liturgist will be following you. David will stand directly behind the font and the liturgist will be on the other side of David. You will be in a line behind the font.

David will let you know when it is time to pour the water, but it is typically after the confession. When you pour the water, it is very important that you do not let the pitcher clank on the bowl of the font. It is easiest to pour if you hold the pitcher away from your body, a little to the side. Once you begin pouring, lift the pitcher up as high as you can. When the pitcher is empty, put it down by the font and then stand and wait. After the peace, you may take your seat.
