As we did in 2004, we began with a few simple wreaths draped with gray - placed around the sanctuary (see Worship and the Arts for 2004).
As the period progressed, we added the seasonal purple color to the wreaths. All banners were removed
from the sanctuary. Also the usual palms in the chancel were removed and replaced with urns filled with bare branches.
The picture below captures the gnarled, stark character of this arrangement.
