Advent - 2004
Return to Worship and the Arts home page
The word "Advent" is derived from the Latin verb "advenir," meaning "to come." This
is the season of preparation for the coming of Christ. It is a joyous period of expectation,
following long months of ordinary time. We tried to capture the spirit and anticipation of the
season in our decorations. The billowing material around the cross suggests the Holy Spirit at
work in our lives. The blue colors are for Advent. At first, the material was the only decoration.
Later, we added poinsettias. The traditional red flowers were placed in the narthex. For 2004, we
used only white poinsettias in the sanctuary.
