World Communion Sunday 2005 saw our first application of newly installed devices to elevate banners
and other art creations above the Table in our chancel. This has opened many interesting design
opportunites! Our first creation was a World Communion tapestry. During Vacation Church School in
the summer we created fabic images of youth attending the event. The cut-outs were fastened to a white
runner symbolizing service and oneness in Christ through the different fabic treatments.
World Communion Sunday (originally called World Wide Communion Sunday) originated in the Presbyterian
Church (USA). Celebrated the first time in 1936, the first Sunday in October was set aside by Presbyterian
churches in the United States and overseas to focus on our oneness in Christ across the world. From the beginning,
it was hoped that other denominations would make use of this special time. After a few years the idea spread beyond
the Presbyterian Church.
