The Mission, Stewardship, and Society Committee (MSS) is responsible for
the mission outreach of West Plano Presbyterian Church and with the
support of that mission, as well as the church's involvement in societal
issues. We do this through support of the larger mission of the
Presbyterian Church (USA) through special offerings for designated local
and national mission, as well as keeping the congregation informed of
issues that may need their prayer and attention. We help to manage the
church's financial mission budget and designated funds towards mission.
We meet on the first Sunday of the month at 5 pm in the church
library. Anyone who is interested in this area of the church's life is welcome to
join us.

Through WPPC's gifts, we support our seminaries, including our own seminarian, Matt Calvert. We also provide a
significant amount towards supporting Presbyterian Benevolences.
West Plano Presbyterian also participates in four denominational offerings throughout the year and the
congregation members always gives generously of their resources. Not only do the offerings help the greater
church, but portions of most of these offerings remain locally. Mission, Stewardship and Society (MSS)
committee designates portions to worthy organizations that meet the needs of those less fortunate than us.
These offerings are:
- One Great Hour of Sharing - Presbyterian Hunger Program receives 36% of undesignated One Great Hour of
Sharing gifts, while the Self-Development of People and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance each receive 32%
- Christmas Joy Offering – 50% of the Christmas Joy Offering are distributed to the Board of Pensions for
assistance programs that provide support to retired and active church workers and their spouses and families.
The other fifty percent supports Presbyterian-related racial ethnic education through the National Ministries
Division of the General Assembly Council.
- Pentecost Offering provides a direct way to meet the needs of children at risk, youth, and young adults.
The General Assembly’s 60% portion provides leadership development opportunities for Presbyterian youth and
young adults and supports children-at-risk programs at the national level. Our 40% went to Collin County
Children’s Advocacy Center.
- Peacemaking Offering supports peacemaking initiatives and peace education throughout the church. Of the
amount provided to the greater church, 25% of the Offering received is retained by our congregation, 25% is
used by synods and presbyteries, and 50% is used by the General Assembly ministries through the Presbyterian
Peacemaking Program. For 2007, WPPC is giving its 40% contribution to Hope’s Door.
In addition to these special offerings, MSS works hard to ensure that we follow Christ’s commands to feed the
hungry, clothe the naked, nurture the sick and neglected, and work towards resolving injustices and promoting
peace in our world:
- In our own community, we work with an ecumenical group to work towards health care for the indigent
(nurture the sick & neglected, social justice). We give to the Plano Food Pantry and contribute to Superbowl
Sunday (feed the hungry). We support Dallas Area Interfaith efforts.
- We participate in many mission efforts including current and past efforts for
Collin County Children’s Advocacy Center
Plano Clothes Closet
Hope’s Door
CROP Walk
Rainbows
CITY House
Waxahachie Children’s Home
Habitat for Humanity
Plano International Pre-School
Samaritan Inn
Our largest, and most visible, mission effort is our support of the Mexico Mission projects and long-term support
of Huejotitan Orphanage.
We are also working to educate the congregation (including subscriptions to Presbyterians Today) and participate in more
social justice issues, especially in areas that work towards peace, understanding, and tolerance to treat all people
with respect and as Christ commanded us.
