Have a cost saving idea?
The Finance Committee was formed to assist staff, Session and its
committees in formulating standardized policies and procedures to better manage our
resources and to provide consistency with our denomination's
Presbyterian polity. The committee has provided and recommended policies to Session
for their approval regarding health & safety, child protection, alcohol,
facility usage, weddings/funerals, and various other areas of the
church's operation.
In addition, working directly with Session, the committee has oversight
in management of the church's finances, so the church's Treasurer and
Assistant Treasurers are members of this committee. In assuming this
responsibility, the committee works together with all persons within the church
including staff, Session and various committees to manage the gifts God has given
us.
The committee meets on the third Sunday of each month of the year at 6 p.m., except when churchwide conflicts arise.
On a day-to-day basis, each of us deals with
management of our family households.
This includes feeding the body and soul, scheduling of our time, and
managing our household financial resources and budgets. The same happens at businesses and companies
where many of us work or are self-employed.
From time-to-time, it is prudent to evaluate how we are using the time
and money required to maintain, and improve upon, those resources. And, from a Christian perspective, we are
expected to be good stewards of our gifts we’ve been given. Your Session has tasked the Finance Committee with
leading an initiative to discover areas where we might be able to better use
the resources we have, by identifying ways to reduce expenses or to be better
stewards of our existing facilities and finances. We have already solicited suggestions from
the operating committees, but would like to extend our solicitation to the
entire congregation for feedback.
Consider this our open “suggestion box” for your ideas. No suggestion is too small for consideration.
