Purpose of Presbyterian Women
Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by
the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves:
- to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,
- to support the mission of the church worldwide,
- to work for justice and peace, and
- to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church
(U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God’s kingdom.
Presbyterian Women Meetings & Activities 2007-2008
For 2008/2009, our officers are:
President - Ollie Morgan
Treasurer - Barb Peterson
Communications - Sharon Finley
All women of West Plano Presbyterian Church and guests are invited to participate in our 2008 events:
Fall Retreat, the weekend of November 7-8
For this special upcoming event Barb Peterson has confirmed that Rev. Jenny Churchman will join us
and lead us in another inspirational weekend. Those at the breakfast meeting were in
enthusiastic agreement that she is one of our favorite program leaders and
we eagerly anticipate this wonderful event.
Friendship Tea & Officer Installation Thursday, May 8
We gathered for this third annual opportunity to invite family or guests
and share in the provision of sandwiches, sweet delicacies and a variety of
teas. Rev. Polly Williams joined us, and performed the
installation of our new officers for 2008/2009.
Breakfast Meeting, April 5
|
We wish to give a big thank you to chef Gary Peterson and his able sous chef
Rick Smith for a gourmet breakfast on Saturday April 5th. We had trays full
of heavenly cinnamon/raisin french toast, eggs, and sausage accompanied by
real Maple Syrup, fruit compote, juice and coffees. Following breakfast we
voted on the proposed slate of officers. The whole group then brainstormed
several good topics for our meetings in 2008/2009 including: Heritage Farm
as a possible Fall or Christmas tour, a play by one of the HS drama groups,

and tour of Dallas Arboretum. Due to the regular size of our group we may
also consider holding meetings at individual's homes and providing child
care for some special meetings. Several mission projects were discussed
including supplies for My Friends House (infant care), feminine products for
Hope's Door, working with other churches to pack weekend snack packs for low
income students to take home on Fridays and to find other donation and
volunteer opportunities and advertise them to the whole church for
participation.
Winter Meeting, January 10
The PW officers provided King Ranch Chicken casserole and all the extras.
Caralee Gurney, community educator for Collin County Children’s Advocacy Center,
shared details about their new building and its impact on their programming and give us ideas about how we in
the community can continue to help with this vital service. A brief business meeting followed Caralee’s program.

WPPC Women’s Fall Retreat
We had a great retreat on November 2nd and 3rd at Spring Hill Retreat Center in Richardson. About 30 women from WPPC and
guests shared a study lead by Laura Niles Finch and created prayer journals for our future use. We enjoyed wonderful
hearty soups and tempting desserts and created some hilarious new favorites for those “regifting” items for next year’s
White Elephant gift exchange. For our annual service project there were monetary donations and armfuls of new bears
collected for the Collin County Children’s Advocacy Center. Seven participants stayed overnight;
it was a bit nippy by morning, though all attending enjoyed the activities!
