Leaving Winter Behind

Have you noticed?

Have you noticed that sometimes the cold days of winter seem to move a bit slowly but before you know it another month has evaporated into warm memories? Well, our pal, Punxsutawney Phil did indeed see his shadow and that explains the extra six weeks of winter. But during this cooler time, our hearts were warmed by God's love shown to us by our friends in PYM. Thanks to the great 6-8th graders for taking care of our Souper Bowl of Caring offering Feb 3. While they were busy collecting $350 for the Plano Food Pantry, Lauren Fleming, Shelby Stubbe, Amanda Robinson, Jeannie Denzin and Betty were “Between the Trees” at SHYC.

Other times ...

Other times in this month found Shelby, Rachel, Kyle, Kristen, Kelly, Peter, Thomas, Megan, Emily, Rachel, Maddie, Miles, and Laura chomping on Mama's Pizza then enjoying brainstorming. Once again, as every week, our prayers were gathered as we joined our hearts and voices. Instrumentally speaking, our talents were stretched with fun and music in preparation for the Silent Auction. And each Wednesday we journeyed toward Easter by imaginatively exploring the stories we will share anew at the Easter Vigil, Kelly, Cory, Thomas, Kirby, Matt, Pollux, and Kristen envisioned some mighty creative ways to look at these stories. Together we are Marching toward a spectacular Spring.!

The season of Lent

Even as these gatherings provide us with times to enjoy our friendships and various activities, the season of Lent continues and we move toward what one theologian has called “The Easter Moment” -- the moment that changed history for all time. Continue to read daily and pray continuously, use the PYM calendar for one resource of suggested readings. A friend suggested that when unsure what to read in the Bible just pick the psalm that corresponds with the date ... e.g. Psalm 1 on March 1. Beginning with Ash Wednesday we move together with the greater church toward the next step in the mystery of our faith. We will participate in the sharing of our common history as God's people during the Easter Vigil. Watch, listen, read, reflect and be an active part of this journey we share. Ask your Christian Formation Class teacher, Betty, or Pastor Dave as questions about this time in our lives occur. Continue to be part of the Youth Ministries through our church to God's world. See you as many Sundays as you are able to be with us.

Together, we will MARCH into:

Special Events

EASTER VIGIL: Interested in helping make the stories of our faith come alive, especially the story of creation? Betty will have parts and readings for you as well as setting a time to get creative with our interpretation of the beginning of our common story.

QUASIMODO SUNDAY: Your presence is vital to preparing for our annual play and breakfast for our congregation. So each Sunday, plan to be at the PYM gatherings for that week's portion of decisions and preparations.

SILENT AUCTION 08: All youth and parents are encouraged to step up to the plate and help with the Silent Auction, including the solicitation of auction goods prior to the date, set up , the kick off dinner evening, the entertainment and live auction, the silent part of the auction itself, and the cleanup/delivery. See Betty, Hilary, and Beth for specific tasks.

REGISTERING FOR MISSION TRIP 08: Please get your registration forms and deposits for the 15th Annual YOUTH MISSION TRIP to Louisville Kentucky to Betty. Remember that any friends who are interested must participate in fund raisers and weekly PYM gatherings. The registration deposit is $15 for one youth or $25 for two from one family. Thanks!

YOUTHQUAKE Tribe: we need your tuition asap. We have a great delegation including Emily Mikhail, Maddie Webster, Thomas McLeod, Rachel McLain, Kyle Webster, Peter Mikhail, and Megan McLain representing us. We hope that our own STARS (Presbytery Leadership Team) members Shelby Stubbe and Lauren Fleming will be on staff when we go to Prairie Valley for this fun and wonderfilled weekend.

MAKING SURE Betty has the correct email address for all youth and their parents. This includes friends who join in the weekly and special event fun.
